The restoration process for teeth that are missing in the upper back requires more attention when compared to other areas of the mouth. When these back teeth are missing, the sinus cavity grows which results in the natural bone to deteriorate over a period of time. Patients who would like dental implants in the upper back teeth who do not have sufficient natural bone will require a sinus augmentation procedure. The purpose of the procedure is to add more bone below the sinus in order for dental implants to be inserted.
It usually takes a period of 4 to 12 months for the bone to develop after a sinus augmentation procedure. Once the bone has successfully developed, dental implant procedure can take place.
