Fluoride is referred to as a natural mineral that minimizes cavities as well as tooth decay. When fluoride is used on teeth – it can strengthen the tooth enamel, which allows it to prevent tooth decay from occurring and also help treat tooth decay if already affected. Fluoride has been seen to be very efficient in preventing cavities and tooth decay in children.
Leading toothpaste, oral gel, mouthwash and rinses use fluoride as a main ingredient as it is essential part of oral health care.
Fluoride achieves two essential dental objectives. It helps prevent mineral loss from the tooth enamel and it also helps with remineralization of the tooth enamel.
When carbohydrates are eaten, harmful acids are formed by the oral bacteria that feed on the sugars. These acids strike the tooth enamel, primarily in children that produce very little saliva. When the acid is consistently striking the tooth enamel, cavities and tooth decay are formed. The use of fluoride prevents the acid from damaging the tooth enamel and reduces the exposure of cavities and tooth decay.
Fluoride is very effective in providing optimal oral health when it is used as part of a good oral hygiene plan. A proper diet containing minimal sugary foods, regular brushing, flossing and regular dental visits is always recommended in order to keep teeth beautiful, healthy and clean.
